I wrote a blog post “What is Reiki?” in 2022, soon after receiving my Level I & II placements; you can read that HERE. Now that I’ve been practicing Reiki, as well as receiving my Master level placement, I’ve got a better feel for this powerful healing modality and how it heals:
Reiki flows, easily. Anyone who has received a Reiki placement only needs to ask, or intend, for the energy to flow, and it is there. Just thinking of Reiki energy, or even being around someone in distress/in need of healing, can cause my hands to heat right up with Reiki. As I type this, my hands are warm, as my attention is focused on this energy. It’s important to note: Reiki does not deplete the practitioner’s energy. It’s a channeled energy; I’m merely a vessel for it. Fun fact: when I give Reiki, I receive healing as well.
Reiki is intelligent, meaning it flows where it needs to flow. At the start of each session, I set the intention that this healing energy goes where it needs to go, for the client’s best & highest good. Our energy moves through, and around us, like an energy highway. While we may be giving Reiki on the stomach area, it may flow up to the neck; alternatively, treating your feet can result in Reiki flowing to your back.
Reiki does no harm. Reiki is guided by spiritual consciousness, and so it always knows what a person needs. As I mentioned above, I am simply a vessel for the energy; the Reiki energy directs where it goes, not me. Reiki is always helpful and always safe.
When I first began my Reiki practice, I was very concerned about the experience someone had on my table. I was hopeful that their experience validated what I was doing – meaning they felt energy move in their bodies or saw visions or colors, something tangible. This was a naive way of thinking; though I don’t fault myself for it as a new practitioner. Now that I’ve worked with this modality, and I know Reiki is intelligent and does no harm, I step back and let the Reiki flow and do what it needs to do.
Reiki calms & relaxes your body – both energetically & physically – essentially giving pause to every day life. When our bodies receive proper rest, along with life force energy for support, our natural healing abilities are stimulated.
I am often asked what a Reiki session is like. While I can give a general answer, what’s true here is that everyone has a different experience, depending upon what they need. Experiencing a Reiki session is the only way to know; and even then, your sessions can differ from one to the next.
If you’re interested in getting your Reiki Levels I & II placements, I’ve got a Reiki training weekend coming up in October – Oct 19 & 20, a Saturday & Sunday. If you’d like more details, please email me: bobbi@harmonywellnessandyoga.com.
